Things to Do Outside of Miami in 2026: Butterfly World in Coconut Creek


On Valentine’s Day this year, I decided to do something different.

Instead of the typical dinner plans, I packed my camera, grabbed my mom and my daughter, and we drove about 60 minutes north to Coconut Creek, Florida.


If you’re searching for things to do outside of Miami in 2026, this is one of those hidden gems that feels like stepping into another world.

And wow… from the moment you enter the garden, it’s magical.


These are the exact kind of environments I look for when planning my family lifestyle photography in South Florida sessions.

A Butterfly Garden You Don’t Expect in South Florida


Butterfly World in Coconut Creek is filled with thousands of butterflies flying freely around you.

Blue butterflies. Black butterflies with red details. Green butterflies that camouflage perfectly against the lush tropical leaves.

For someone who lives in a busy city like Miami, spending hours surrounded by nature like this feels grounding. We forget how much we need quiet, slow, natural spaces.


The butterfly aviary was the part I was most excited about. I hadn’t spent real time immersed in nature in a while.

And then something unforgettable happened.


One of the large blue butterflies — the hardest ones to photograph — landed on me.

It stayed there. I couldn’t believe it. I felt like a child again. Pure happiness.

A Dream Location for Nature Photography Near Miami

As a photographer, I always look for photography locations near Miami that feel different from the beach or urban settings.


Butterfly World is incredible for:

The colors are unreal. The greenery inside the gardens creates a soft, diffused light that photographers love.

After leaving the butterfly enclosure, you walk into another section filled with tropical plants and orchids.

The variety of plants is impressive, but what really caught my attention were the small birds — almost like canaries — flying freely among the greenery. And then… the parrots.


There’s a large aviary full of colorful parrots. Bright greens, blues, yellows, and reds. Watching them interact with each other honestly felt like watching little couples move from branch to branch.


If you bring cash, you can pay $5 to feed them and interact more closely. Important tip: they only accept cash for that experience. I didn’t know, so I missed that part. But you can still walk inside and take photos.
